We're Tracking the Bills That Cut Costs
Turns out Congress does have some bills out there to provide relief!
It’s hard to believe, but it’s officially been six months since we launched The Rebuild. Both Gary Winslett and I are excited and grateful you have been along for the journey with us. As we continue to grow, we wanted to open it up and ask if you have any ideas, questions, or comments you would like to share with us. We care about your thoughts and would love to see how we can address them. Please don’t hesitate to reply directly to this email or leave a comment below!
The rising cost of living continues to impact American families across the country, from housing and healthcare to childcare and energy costs. According to Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies, the median U.S. home price is now five times the median household income, far above the traditional affordability ratio of 3-to-1. More than 30% of households are cost-burdened, spending at least 30% of their income on housing, all while childcare costs have risen faster than inflation in most markets. These statistics represent real families making difficult choices between paying rent and saving for their children's future, or choosing between filling up their gas tank and buying groceries.
While there are many legislative proposals circulating in Congress that address these critical issues, we've compiled this tracker to highlight the bills we're actively watching and have endorsed as part of a comprehensive Democratic agenda to make life more affordable for working families. These are targeted solutions designed to provide immediate relief while building long-term economic stability. Midterm elections will be here before we know it, and it is important to know which members of Congress care about this growing affordability crisis.
This is a living document that we'll continue to update as new legislation emerges and existing bills advance through the legislative process. Our focus is on practical, impactful solutions that can provide real relief to families struggling with everyday costs. We'll track everything from from introductions to possible signage, giving you the information you need to stay engaged and advocate for the policies that matter most to your community.
